Tip of the day! Riding Volume Faders! (Or in Ableton, the Utility) Say you have certain bass notes that seem to be getting lost, and certain notes are jumping out too much in the mix! A good way to solve this issue is riding the faders! (I prefer the utility in Ableton) Pulling notes up and pushing notes down! It is mostly a matter of fine-tuning the automation, riding this up a bit, swoop something else, maybe have a part 3-4 dB louder when the chorus hits and then bring it down gradually. Your essentially playing around with things that add to the drama and architecture of the mix. Its down to you to get the feel for this! Taking the power of moving the volume fader (mixing at it’s most foundational) is now giving you the ability to automate it for certain tracks at certain moments in time. Sort of sweetening to taste! Of course there are other ways of bringing certain notes up with compression, eq and velocity but I find you have more control doing it this way! See it as another option for you to consider! Happy producing!
