Tired of Oklahoma Earthquakes???? At the recent Science Café Dr. Todd Halihan asked for our help to report the earthquakes you feel! Keep a notebook to record; times, location you are at, what happened during the EQ and/or/if damage occurred. We need to get more help with this especially in rural areas! I attached the slides of Dr. Todds recent speaking engagement in Norman. 1st Please take a moment and report the earthquakes you feel. Go to USGS & the OGS then you can click on the earthquake if it is listed or report one not listed. Just go through the questions. I am linking you directly to the 4.0 on Dec 4th at the USGS. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usc000t3wu#summary earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/dyfi/?enabled=false okgeosurvey1.gov/ 2nd Then take a moment and pick up the phone and make some calls! If you prefer send out emails. You would be amazed at how they do take note! We need large numbers to make a bigger impact. Let’s show we are not happy with the rise in earthquakes! The intensity & frequency is growing and it is going to be up to us to raise the level of our noise up a notch! Please take action! If everyone made calls this week and then helped get 5 friends or family to do the same they would see we are not going to stand for the industry to be protected over the people of Oklahoma. I can’t stress enough that we need family and friends in Oklahoma to join us in this request! More in Tulsa and OKC could be helping to increase the pressure. If a serious more life-threatening earthquake occurs it will impact the entire state and it’s economy. We need more to understand the risks we are taking. Call the capital and let your State Senator and Representative hear from you (link to look them up below), then the Gov. @ 405-521-2342, then call the EPA Region 6 @ 800-887-6063, and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission @ 405-521-2211. They ALL need to hear that we are not happy with the EQ (earthquakes) situation! They all can play a role in bring an end to this madness! You can request a moratorium on injection wells, share that the EQ’s are MAN MADE (the peer reviewed science is in) and you want some actions taken to protect you and your family & home. Share any damage or how it is impacting your lives! Together we can make enough noise to be heard and then actions taken! Please take sometime and make the calls! It is always helpful to be friendly and to the point. If we do so in numbers it will be helpful and you can know you are taking action! Then share with family and friends to do the same! Our elected officials are supposed to work for us and protect us not the industry! SEE the NYTIMES story below! 3rd I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in helping to push our ideas for what the Oklahoma Corporation Commission can do to improve their rules for our new neighbors the oil & gas industry. We can ask for a variety of things. Matt Skinner said we could email him with recommendations. He needs them by Friday Dec. 12th. He is giving us an opportunity to have input! There is a need for signs posting whom the well pad are owned by immediately upon getting the well pad. It is unacceptable to not be able to determine who our new neighbors are. Then people would know who to call for questions and information. Proper fencing, improve the lighting so it is safer and easier to deal with when you live by a drilling site or you are driving by. I understand that around 80th area it is blinding to drive by. They could do better at having the trucks marked and having companies have their drivers more responsible and considerate (not running folks off the road). What can we recommend to help with the damage of our roads? We could discuss the set backs and other issues that we all know are involved. We need to be thoughtful but we can help them draft up better rules that can make our lives with our neighbors better! I hope some of you join Jeff and I in writing. I would appreciate having copies of the emails sent out so I can follow up with Matt and make another push prior to him going to the meetings. Our movement is starting to show some fruits to our work. Feel free to state you are a Stop Fracking Payne Member! The industry is controlling our state and I believe the majority of our elected officials. nytimes/2014/12/07/us/politics/energy-firms-in-secretive-alliance-with-attorneys-general.html?smid=nytcore-ipad-share&smprod=nytcore-ipad reuters/article/2013/11/11/us-continental-flaring-idUSBRE9AA0GU20131111 https://youtube/watch?v=vFMoxx9ryCY https://youtube/watch?v=K7XgoekcrBw oklegislature.gov/FindMyLegislature.aspx okhouse.gov/Members/Default.aspx oksenate.gov/Senators/Default.aspx?selectedtab=0 Thanks for taking action and being apart of the solution!
