Title: The Servant of God – Being Salt and Light of the World Key verses: Isaiah 42:1-7, 49:1-6, 50:4-9 Preacher: Pastor Edmund Cheung Date: 9th March 2014 The church is called to be salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13, 14). We are the church and each of us, as a servant of God, is responsible to put God’s thing in order in this world, to preserve God’s commands and to let people see how God works in our lives. Therefore, they are able to understand God’s plan, to feel God’s love, to receive the grace of God and to experience the presence of God. Although God wants each of us to be his servant of salt and light, the reality is that we are more easy to (or have tendency) become a bad salt and weak light (like King Ahaz and some Judah officers). Do you know where you are right now? • Don’t want to be a good servant of God at all. • Have a desire to be a good servant of God but never put it into an action. • Have already committed to God but full of frustration, disappointment and grumble. • Have tried very hard but not getting any good and fruitful results. Nearly at the edge of giving up. • Being humble, truly trusting God, patience, perseverance and joy. Do you know how to make a breakthrough? We might think that it should be straight forward to become a good servant of God. It is like what Isaiah said, “Here am I; send me”. It sounds very simple and easy. It seems that what we only need is willingness, desire, passion, responsive and boldness. Of course, they are all valid but there are still a lot of more important things for us to learn and understand about being the good servant of God. Jesus Christ, the Messiah, set an example of how to be a good servant of God. In order to be a good servant of God, we must understand the following points: • God is our Lord who is almighty and justice. • Our nature is rebellion. • How does God treat his servants? • What kind of attitude should we have? • How should we respond? • What is our ministry about? • We must be a humble learner. • Suffering is a part of our life.
