To ALL LLOKA members, Todays event was undoubtedly a major milestone for LLOKA organization and many thanks and kudos to ALL of the sponsors, The television and radio media forums that have hosted interviews, as well as the Miami Herald which has published articles pertaining to Krome Avenue, MDPD, MDFR, FHP Troop E, MADD, volunteers and LLOKA members that, worked on the logistics involved for several months as well as at todays event to insure that everything was properly coordinated. The FHP rollover simulator was very impressive, and I hope that, the demonstration provided sent a clear message to everyone ( especially for those) that, do not use their seat belts to wear them at ALL times. Many thanks to ALL of the elected, and roadway officials that, also supported and attended the event to honor ALL of the LOST LIVES that have unfortunately occurred on Krome Avenue over the last 60 years as well as the SURVIVORS of this hazardous public roadway and heaven only knows how many undocumented CLOSE CALLS or NEAR MISSES have also occurred as well. Today, we ALL heard a commitment which was made by Mr. Prassad the Secretary from FDOT in Tallahassee that, oversees local FDOT district # 6in Miami Dade and Monroe County. Krome Avenue has become the number # 1 priority project in the State, and that soon ( March 2015) we will begin to see much needed safety enhancements performed to the roadway as interim solutions WE (LLOKA) have been advocating for months as well as an increase in presence of the FHP troopers patrolling this current hazardous roadway. Our goal is to hopefully prevent the additional LOSS of LIVES occurring on this roadway. He also stated that SAFETY was the number # 1 PRIORITY for ALL of the 6500 FDOT employees throughout the State. Lets also not ever forget the words of the priest, that budgetary issues should NEVER take precedence over the public safety of the lives of the motorists / residents ( whom are also taxpayers) which unfortunately in the past along with some resistance from residents in some areas of Krome Avenue have been the causes of delays ( 30 years) for the much needed expansion of this 2 lane public roadway which is a MAIN north / south CORRIDOR in Miami Dade County. We also heard from Rita and Richard Barretto and another parent as well that, either lost a son / or a daughter, other family siblings and / or friends (many additional unknown others that also LOST their LIVES on this roadway soon Yoly and other volunteers will hopefully be able to track down to record their names for the proposed monument) on this roadway which is what WE are trying to prevent from reoccurring in the future to other motorists that travel on this roadway. Our work on Krome Avenue is far from being over. WE (LLOKA) members will be constantly monitoring the progress development occurring on this currently very hazardous roadway as promised. We need to hold FDOT accountable with their promise or commitment since we will NOT cease with our roadway advocacy efforts until such time this roadway is finally made SAFE by FDOT for ALL motorists to travel on. Once again thank you to everyone that, attended the event and those that, unfortunately could not as well. It was a pleasure for me to personally meet some of you that we have corresponded with on various occasions pertaining to Krome Avenue and other public safety and traffic mobility issues of concern for everyone. Lets ALL be SAFE, and DRIVE DEFENSIVELY while traveling on Krome Avenue and ALL public roadways as well so that we can hopefully ARRIVE ALIVE to our intended destination each and every time.
