To Aldi. Dear Ms Restall, & everyone else @ Aldi stores, Hello & Assalamu alaikum, Despite the best efforts of Sodastreams CEO to paint itself as such, Sodastream is Not an international company. It manufactures its products in Mishor Adumim, an industrial site which is part of the illegal settlement of Maale Adumim in the West Bank. The Palestinians it employs do not have equal opportunities - they have no minimum wage protection, neither do they have health and safety protection - unlike their Jewish co-workers. I am somewhat surprised that you are not aware of the negative coverage surrounding this company? It was so bad, Oxfam demanded that Scarlett Johansson, who was the face of Sodastream step down as Oxfam ambassador. Subsequently, the CEO of Sodastream has been forced, by international pressure, to announce that he will close the West Bank factory - however he has NOT done so. Further, his proposed new location is part of the forced displacement of Bedouins from the Negev (the notorious Prawer Plan) which means yet more ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Despite its glossy blurb about providing employment to Palestinians in order to paint itself white or even green, the company recently sacked 60 Palestinian employees simply for asking for fair treatment. Why? Because the company will only provide food for its Jewish employees. Palestinians protested and 60 employees were sacked simply because they dared protest. haaretz/business/.premium-1.606304. So much for fair treatment By selling Sodastream you are funding the ethnic cleansing and genocide that is being committed in Palestine ( the West Bank and Gaza). Regular customers of Aldi will undoubtedly shop elsewhere because of this. Further, as a human rights worker working to raise awareness of the atrocities being committed in Palestine I will be making sure many others know of your stance on this issue. The information has already appeared on at least 10 human rights websites - meaning more that 50,000 users have seen Aldis decision. Other companies have walked away from Sodastream (electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/public-radio-kqed-pulls-sodastream-gifts-donors) - maybe Aldi should reconsider? From Palestinians who work at the factory:electronicintifada.net/content/sodastream-treats-us-slaves-says-palestinian-factory-worker/12441 The reality of Sodastream: vimeo/89387532. All I ask my friends is be human, stay human. Help us..... Free Palestine. A positive response will be appreciated. Kind regards Arif Shah.
