To Keep Nigeria One… I want to believe that if you are less than 56years old you never experienced the Nigerian civil war. Obviously you one should not blame you if as a leader you keep promoting hate among the three major ethnic tribes in the country. I watched with utter dismay some of our political leader on television routing for disagreement among the existing political parties. It reminded me of the famous quote from a politician in those days. After the Aburi meeting which collapsed, he was quoted as saying. “We told them”. Every day I keep asking myself the question who he was referring to. Must brothers and sisters who see themselves as equals refer to each other in such language? That was the height of arrogance in those days. I said to myself. Our politicians are back speaking the same language and I am beginning to wonder if we are not walking the same footpath again. There is no doubt that the PDM had the dominant membership of the PDP which has grown to be the largest and most dominant party in Africa. The PDP has for years sustained the unity of this very volatile country for several years. This is the party that has made other parties in Nigeria realize that without unity in diversity we will not achieve anything. Yes they might not have got it right but is it not better to continue mending the house as it has done for years than pulling it down to start building new structures? I know that a group of politicians who have for years promoted selfish ethnic politics are now coming together to learn what it takes to unite. But honestly can the leopard change its spot? Some of us know that some of the leaders of these parties have their own selfish agenda which will never change. Some of them believe that they have been destined to rule this country. They must have absolute power even if they have to step on souls to get it. They must secure the power for themselves or their family. If there is any war or break downs they would fly their children once again out of the country like their parents did forty odd years ago. My brothers and Sisters, I saw war and will not pray for another war. I want to appeal to Baba Olusegun Obasanjo, General Yakubu Gowon, General Babangida, General David Mark and other who saw war to step into the crisis in PDP the only party that has been able to hold this country together for over ten years without a coup. You swore to protect the nations investment with that slogan years ago. You must rise up to it once again. To keep Nigeria One is a task that must be Done.
