To Mic or Not to Mic that is the question ? The Answer ? Your voice is one of the most important components while teaching your Indoor Cycling class . Ive been a DJ for over 20 yrs + and I cant think of a time when Ive DJ a Gig at Clubs , Weddings , B-Day Parties , Bar Mitzvahs , Bat Mitzvahs , Social functions and even the local House party that I didnt have a Mic ! The logic is simple ...you cant talk/shout/scream over a loud crowd or music ! When teaching my classes I like to Segue using my DJ Peter G radio voice :) I can choose a variety of voice inflections to compliment the song/exercise/mood for my class . When I play a more Soulful type song I drop my voice to a whisper and get my riders to relax and chill . When I play a song that has lots of Attitude then I add some Grit to my voice and Edge them on to go Harder . When I play songs which Inspire then I use my Soothing voice while tossing in words of motivation to reflect on . When I play songs with Rhythm , Pulse and Deep Pounding Beats ! Then thats when I get off my bike and use my Coaching voice to get my riders Amped Up and Fired Up and finish Strong Bottom line is ........ There so many things you can do with your Voice as one of the most important key components to compliment the song/exercise/mood your trying to translate to your riders . I understand at times we all have experienced technical problems with our Mics which craps out on us at times . Maybe some of you work at places where they dont have a Mic . Thats when we have to use hand signals or figure out other creative ways to guide our riders thru out the class . Shouting or Screaming will never be the better option over using a Mic ! Ive never been a fan of taking classes where Indoor Cycling Instructors prefer not to wear a Mic . So I thought that I share my 2 cents :)
