To Moscow Biennale 2013 curator Catherine de Zegher Dear - TopicsExpress

To Moscow Biennale 2013 curator Catherine de Zegher Dear Catherine ! For obvious reasons I could visit Manege only yesterday. I planed to wright a private letter to You with my own gratitude and those from Collective of authors for the invitation to the main project, long straggle for our installation realization and, at last, for beautiful general exposition and clear concept of More light. The work with You and our discussions, how to integrate our action into the static exposition, was extremely interesting for me. Many of our friends and colleagues know, how long and difficult was discussion of our participation in the Biennale, what forces were used to prevent the presentation of Plain Air (The white canvas) at Manege. And this despite the fact, that today very little politics is left from our statement on May 2012 at the embankment in front of Kremlin. The government is not afraid of white color any more and the number of political prisoners growing from day to day. Moreover, I count some of them among my friends. I did not plan to wright an open letter, at all, but the statement of Minister of Culture Medinskij V. apropos the Biennale does not leave me any other choice. Dear Catherine! I am ashamed! I am ashamed that Your professionalism has got such a vulgarian appreciation. I am ashamed, that Russian officials have a right to rudeness. I am ashamed, that Your image of the Russian artistic community were discredited by the unlettered mountebanks and buffoons. Im sad to know that the barbarism became Russian state cultural policy and I am ashamed that I was not able to give You a stronger support. Please, take this situation easier and stay away from Russia. The situation progresses the way, that any cooperation with governmental culture institutions becoming impossible and unacceptable. Regards, Anton Litvin Artist, curator and author of the Plein Air project idea October 14, 2013.
