To Whom It May Concern, My name is, Mr Farshid Farokh Nian. My date of birth is 30th April 1973. I am Kurdish and I am an international journalist and movie maker, by profession. I am writing, briefly, to explain my circumstances to date which have led me to my present state. Originally living in Iran, I was employed in my profession and actively working with issues concerning human rights, particularly as a political activist. Consequently, I have, on several occasions been subject to imprisonment and torture in several prisons under the instruction of the Islamic Regime of Iran. In September, 2009, I felt that my safety in Iran could no longer be guaranteed. With the help of friends in my industry, I was able to obtain an exit visa to travel out of Iran to Bulgaria. My intention was to travel further on. However, on arrival to Bulgaria, my passport was seized and I was put into the Immigration Detention Center. The reason given at the time was that I had no valid passport. The authorities then informed me that their intention was deportation back to Iran. I feared for my life and thankfully was saved from deportation with a document through the United Nations stating that the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, an opposition party to the Islamic Regime of Iran, could vouch and verify that my case was justified and credible to warrant a stay of deportation. My life would be endangered with any return to Iran.
