To all my animal loving friends! I Sent an email to my Congressman my opposition to federal laws that are being suggested to weaken the protection and treatment of farm animals raised for food and this the the wonderful response I got back. Thank you Congressman Randy Hultgren, you have my vote for sure! Dear Mrs. Stevens: Thank you for sharing your concern for animal safety and support for legislation that promotes the better treatment of animals. I appreciate hearing from you. As you may know, most animal treatment legislation is state-based. In Illinois, we have some very high standards that should be protected from federal encroachment. In my role as your Congressman I will continue to support these state laws and ensure that enforcement of select federal laws are not compromised. Whether on the farm or in the home, how we treat our animals reflects the values of our society. We should be promoting a culture of life and protecting vulnerable populations – especially for people, but for animals as well.
