To all my friends who were just invited to the protest at Telethon: This is a huge issue for me. My kids benefit from the research at the Telethon Kids Institute and there are many organisations that also receive funding. HOWEVER, this arrangement with Greyhounds WA is despicable. Part of the sponsorship arrangement includes the donation of a racing dog to Telethon. This dog will race on behalf of Telethon and a portion of the prize money (if there is any and the dog doesnt injure itself first) will be given to the charity. They are lending their name to an organisation that is directly involved in animal cruelty and gambling. If this is not blatant support of an industry that is responsible for the needless deaths of nearly 20,000 pups EVERY YEAR then I dont know what is. Why Telethon agreed to this arrangement is beyond my comprehension. Attempts to contact Telethon directly has been largely ignored, and posts/reviews on Facebook criticising the competition have been removed. Obviously there has been no media coverage at all.
