To all of the aspiring photographers out there, do you ever wonder why after you create the perfect set, find the best props, and have the cutest little kid in the cutest little outfit that your image still isnt coming out exactly how you saw it on Pinterest or other inspirational source youve been getting ideas from? Its because you lack the knowledge to build a photograph. Photography is so much more than those things I listed above. You have to have knowledge of your camera controls from f-stops to shutter speeds and ISO. You have to learn what each of these controls does and where to set them to achieve the look you desire. And thats only the tip of the iceberg. You have to know about lenses and things like depth of field and focal length. Most importantly you have to have a knowledge of light. Photography by definition is the study of light. Your image needs to have depth and the only way youre going to do that is by using light to create shadows and highlights. To accentuate one part of an image for emphasis and to let another fall into the shadows as to not compete with the main subject of your image. There are also posing rules and lighting ratios. I could go on and on. Regardless my point is photography is about so much more than posing a pretty person, having the right set and props and then clicking the button. Anyone can do that. If you love photography, then please do yourself a favor, go get educated and actually become a photographer.
