To celebrate International Women’s Day, the 25th Cork French Film Festival and the Lord Mayor’s office will host a special screening of ‘Girl Rising’ and it will be introduced by President of Cork Chamber, Gillian Keating, and supported by McAfee, an Intel company. The screening will take place at 11.30am on Saturday, March 8, in the Gate Cinema on Cork’s North Main Street. ‘Girl Rising’ is a groundbreaking film which tells the stories of nine incredible girls across the globe. It is narrated by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez and others. ‘Girl Rising’ is a project of the Girl Rising international movement (girlrising); promoting education for girls around the world. ‘Millions of girls face barriers to education that boys do not and yet, when you educate a girl you can break cycles of poverty in just one generation.’ Admission is free of charge but places should be booked in advance at the Gate Cinema booking office (Tel. 021-4279595).
