To continue our commemorations of WW1, each day this week we will be honouring some of Poole’s men who fought and died during the conflict. Today we honour Frederick James Coward. Born in 1892, Frederick was the son of James and Annie Coward. He lived in Green Road, Poole. He fought in WW1 as a Private in the 8th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). He died in Belgium on 14 June 1916 at the age of 24. Frederick, pictured in the middle with his brothers, received numerous medals for his bravery. These brave men are all recorded on Poole’s Roll of Honour. Created by the council and Poole Museum amongst others, the Roll of Honour lists all those who we know came from Poole and who died in action during the First World War. The Roll of Honour can be viewed at pooleatwar. We will never forget.
