To dream the impossible dream....? Poets and lyricists and essayists talk about dreams all the time: Ralph Waldo Emerson penned: “Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.” Eleanor Roosevelt wrote: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure” came from Paulo Coelho. And Amelia Earhart: “Everyone has oceans to fly, if they have the heart to do it. Is it reckless? But what do dreams know of boundaries?” We all have dreams. Even those that are stowed deep in our heart from long ago are still there. Maybe we need to shake them out a bit. Some we’ll keep; others, we’ll give away or just let go of. “Hold fast to dreams. For if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.” Langston Hughes encouraged us to cherish our dreams. When we were younger, we dreamed in living color and described our dreams to all who would listen in vivid detail--color, size, shape--with a great deal of enthusiasm. Somewhere along the way, we either stopped talking about our dreams or put them to the side, but we still dream. Mark Hoverson’s Solomon CEO and Million Dollar Day help us dig deep into our hearts and let go of the stuff that gets in the way of our dreaming and of articulating those dreams; the things that get in the way of making our dreams come true. My sons want to be rock stars. I encourage them to say that OUT LOUD. I encourage them to write that down and to have a photo that represents that dream somewhere they can see it every day. I’m encouraging you to do the same. Give yourself some quiet time to conjure up your dreams-- What do you want for yourself and your family? What do you want to be doing? What kind of work do you want to do? Where do you want to live? Where do you want to travel? What kind of car do you want to drive? Where do you want to give of your time and/or money? Whatever is important to you, let the dreams come to you. There are no limits except as we put them there. Be specific. Be detailed. Put those photos and words on the bathroom mirror so you see them every morning. Put them on the refrigerator or on the dashboard of your car. Post them over your computer in your work space. Put them places where you’ll seem daily, several times a day. Talk about them with people who will honor your dreams and encourage you as you move in the direction of your dreams. Dream. Dream. Dream. Dream. (Sing along with the Everly Brothers!) What are your dreams?
