To get ready for the NESC season we thought it would be helpful and fun to post words of the month. Here we go! The word of the month is sardoodledum. Sar•doo•dle•dom (sär’düdəldəm) Part of speech: Noun Definition: a type of play with a contrived, melodramatic plot and unrealistic characters Origin: The word originates from the name of the nineteenth century French playwright Victorian Sardou, whose style was criticized by contemporary playwright George Bernard Shaw. Use in the Scripps Spelling Bee: In the 2007 Scripps Spelling Bee, “sardoodledom” was given to contestant Kennyi Aouad, who went on to place 5th in the 2009 competition.
