To me the killing of the two cops is not and should not be tied to activism, protesters or the movement. It is a a tragic event caused by a mental health crisis in this man. If our police took domestic violence seriously they would have tracked him after he shot his ex that morning with as much vigilance as they did when he shot the cops. If our system took mental health seriously - especially for POC - they would have offered help and had resources to do it in place when his mother and sister warned the police about him prior to the shooting of the cops. If our society took POC seriously we would not have been so quick to call him an assassin, terrorist, say execution style or try to tie this into the protest. No, we would have said Where did we fail this family? What can we do better?
