To my Facebook family: After my Veterans Day presentation found - TopicsExpress

To my Facebook family: After my Veterans Day presentation found myself in a very interesting conversation with a young lady. During the conversation she mentioned that it was so sad the way the Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned home. I replied that the beauty of America that we always seem to realize our mistakes and make change for the better. Today our country came together to celebrate the American Veteran with parades, ceremonies, and free meals. I feel we have indeed taken steps to right the past wrongs as we embrace and thank those who so selflessly stepped forward to defend this great nation. On behalf of ALL my military brothers and sisters I would personally like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and well wishes on this very special day. I did manage to choke up with emotion on a few occasions today; once while delivering my keynote address and the other while watching two aging veterans eating lunch at Chilis this afternoon. Despite her faults, I cannot think of another country I would rather live in. I would like to sum things up by borrowing a few lines from my Veterans Day address: I would like to ask a favor from each of you. The next time you see a veteran, I would like you to walk up, shake their hand and thank them for serving their country. At the very moment you do that, something strange and wonderful is going to happen. You are going to feel a chill go up your spine and a lump form in your throat. And that, my friends, is the distinct feeling of patriotism. Thank you very much and God Bless America, my home sweet home!
