Dear family and friends, 6 to 8 months after her birth in 2009, we found out about Neonas condition. She has scoliosis with multiple fused ribs, usually associated with Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome (TIS). We kept this to ourselves as we believe that this challenge was given to us to overcome. Since then, we have been preparing ourselves for the eventuality of Neona having surgery on her spine to correct it. Weve explained to her what her condition is and how it will be fixed to which, Neona only answers Ok...fix bones and make it straight so I can grow tall. As parents, weve already taken steps to save up for the operation. We have some savings but it falls short of the needed amount to purchase the implants (magnetic growing rods costing P900,000). The procedure is relatively new in the Philippines with Neona being the second person to undergo this. Once we are able to purchase the implant, surgery will proceed. This is where we need your help as doctors have appraised us that surgery may need to be done this mid 2014 or earlier. Our time to prepare for this has been cut short.
