I just came across this and it struck me like a slap in the face. I have always seen this as a big issue with industry, economy and other material pursuits. The powers that be and ego driven everyday people often think that bigger, newer, and more equal better and I think shame on them...dont they see the damage that this thinking causes ...yada yada...rant and rave and on and on. It only just ocurred to me that I do this same thing by overfocusing on spiritual growth for myself and those around me. I mean I still believe that a valid life goal is to mature emotionally and spiritually and that wanting to know and experience more of this growth is a good thing AND now Im also seeing that maybe thats not really the end goal as just like a cancer, it can kill the rest of life...the joy, the fun, the natural rhythms that sustain us. Perhaps I can take it a little easier on myself and others and allow some things to unfold as they will without constantly seeking out the patterns and lessons.
