To my family and friends, I ask that you please read this message - TopicsExpress

To my family and friends, I ask that you please read this message in full, it is very important to me! Every day, there are 46 families that will hear the words “your child has cancer.” Tragically, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of America’s children – more than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Asthma, and AIDS combined. Here at the University of Delaware, I am involved in making a difference for these kids. “UDance” is a year-long fundraiser and awareness campaign, and the largest student-run philanthropy at UD, dedicated to raising money and awareness for childhood cancer. The year’s efforts culminate into a 12-hour dance marathon, and this year it will be taking place on March 22nd from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center on campus. Several organizations and teams around campus have had the privilege of adopting “heroes,” or children suffering from cancer, and developed very personal relationships with them. We have 28 brave heroes that have been introduced to campus. Students take them to baseball games, visit them in the hospital, and check up on them and their families regularly. They serve as the daily reminders of why we dance once a year. Unfortunately, in the past 8 years that UDance has been doing this, we have lost a few of these precious children. The battle UDance fights is to put an end to this unfair loss of life. Last year, with the help of many of you, UDance raised a record breaking $850,376! With your help again, we will reach our goal of exceeding last year’s total. Today I ask you to please help us reach our goal to make a difference in the lives of these children. If you could spare it, please visit our secure website and click “DONATE” in order to make a donation to my page: https://udancede.org/udance2015/partpage.aspx?participantid=178813#.VHJ6WWTF8rM This year, I have committed to being a dancer, which means that I will be standing & dancing for all 12 hours of UDance 2015 and additionally raise at least $460 FTK (For the Kids). I ask that you PLEASE forward this message to ANYONE you know that you think may be interested in this cause and/or donating. Childhood cancer, sadly, only receives about 4% of government cancer funding, although the years of life lost from the innocent children far exceed the years lost to other forms of cancer. The money that we raise will benefit The Andrew McDonough B+ (Be Positive) Foundation, a national non-profit organization based here in Delaware that has become one of the country’s leading providers of childhood cancer-related financial assistance. The foundation funds both childhood cancer research as well as provides financial assistance for those affected families in need. Reading the families thank you letters each week at our meetings makes all the work beyond worthwhile. On behalf of all the brave children fighting cancer and their families, thank you!
