To see a video of a sawmill operator cutting a section of a sunken cypress log recovered from a river bottom in the edge of Florida, open this youtube file. You will recognize this mans southern accent as identical to the way we talk in southeast Alabama. This man owns this sawmill located in Iron City, Miller County, Georgia, just across the Choctawhatchee from Houston County Alabama. When this man opens his mouth and starts talking, you will know where he lives and where he came from and who he came from. He is one of us. This cypress log section came from a sunken log found and recovered from a river bottom just below the Florida-Georgia state line. The tree, according to a biologist who measured the growth rings with a magnifying glass, estimated he found 660 rings, meaning the tree was sprouted circa AD 1200. This section of log weighs 22,000 pounds. This man is a national treasure. As soon as I heard his South Georgia accent, I burst into tears of familiarity and joy. My father owned and operated a sawmill on his farm near Wesley Chapel in the 1940s until 1953 youtube/watch?v=aLCtq-P1dLA
