To stand at the side of the risen Jesus, to experience the joy of salvation, to delight in the presence of God, there are no short circuits, no hot lines, no ring roads, no bypasses or shortcuts around the dying, no instant birth, no “quick fix” or “instant”s no separate door of entry. Jesus only said He himself was the door. To know Jesus is to be acquainted with all the seasons of his life winters and summers, desert time and transfiguration, temptation and glorification time, acceptance and rejection by his own folks, Good Friday and Easter Sunday brightness, not forgetting the dark, blank emptiness of a Holy Saturday. Many are comfortable and safe with the baby to cuddle in the manger than the hard hitting, challenging status quo Jesus. It is then a challenge to accept, identify with, and love the total Jesus otherwise there was no need for Jesus to be born. God can only be known through the humanity of Jesus. Only through our human story with its twists and turns, highs and lows, our innermost experiences we see the beauty of God and experience our love story with him.
