To the Joplin Artists and Art Supporters, This may not be the most appropriate forum for this, but it is the only forum I know where I can communicate with my fellow Joplin artists. In the last few days I have read some reveling articles in the Joplin Globe about the attempted firing of city manager Mark Rohr, by the Joplin City Council. I am sure you are very well informed on the subject, but if you are not, please read the excellent article by Anson Burlingame. (joplinglobe/editorial/x1938695650/Anson-Burlingame-guest-columnist-Keystone-Kops-episode-of-city-government). And even most importantly today’s article by Steven F. Duncan. (joplinglobe/editorial/x125818071/Your-View-Standing-by-Rohr) If what Steven Duncan is saying has merit, and it happens to be true, then we must consider the effect this would have in our art community. Mark Rohr has been and continues to be the strongest City Manager advocate for the arts in recent Joplin’s history. I happen to know this personally, because I sat with Mark a few times to discuss his vision for the arts and artists in Joplin. We owe him much for the artistic successes we are enjoying in our city today, and for the continual changes in the short future that will ensure Joplin as a progressive and cultural destination. We as Joplin artist and art supporters should take note and find our single strong voice in support of City Manager Mark Rohr.
