To the driver of the maroon SUV in the mt Dora public library parking lot this afternoon: Im sure you are quite proud of yourself for squeezing your vehicle into the 2/3 parking space beside that double parked ford explorer van with the liberal political stickers and the handicapped sticker on the back and placard on the front. Im also sure you drove past many empty spots to get all the way to the back of the lot to do so. You dont know that I parked that way on purpose, so I could deploy my daughters wheelchair lift. All of the handicap spots with the extra space on the side were on the drivers side of the vehicle, and that parking lot isnt big enough for me to feel comfortable backing into a spot in my large van. We also prefer to leave drivers side accessible open, if at all possible, so that the seriously mobility challenged can get the closer spots. Its no extra effort for my daughter to drive from the back of the lot in her powerchair. In order to load her chair I had to block traffic, by backing up into the driving area, turning off the van, exiting then deploying the lift, loading the chair, then putting the lift away. It took several minutes, and Im sure inconvenienced a patron or two. I park badly like that to discourage people from parking next to me. I only do it when the parking lot has many empty spaces, so no one will be unable to park due to me doing it...so I can get a wheelchair out. I really hope you are proud of yourself, since your bumper stickers proclaim you to be a number one father...Wtg, nice lesson to teach! You decide someone is being a jerk without full information...then one up them by being a bigger jerk.
