To the lady who snapped Dont you touch him! several times at my son when he accidentally bumped your son in the water at the beach today: Maam, I humbly apologize. My son is autistic. Hes high functioning, but he still has a little trouble understanding certain conventions like personal space, body awareness, and awareness of his surroundings. And hes also very big for his age, looking like hes ten, when hes only seven. I do my best to instruct him and teach him how to act in public. Youll notice I brought him right over afterward to talk with him about personal space, and made him sit for five minutes, because he admittedly was thrashing around in the water. But his autism impedes the learning process. He processes things much slower than your or I or average children, so he requires more cues to keep him on task. He certainly meant your son no harm, however. On a side note, though: if youre so distraught at the thought of another child bumping into yours at a PUBLIC BEACH, then perhaps you should buy a kiddie pool for your son to flop around safely in the comfort and security of your own backyard, where hell be protected from contact with the vile scum that is ALL THE REST OF THE HUMAN RACE.
