To the public In order to discuss the recent process of Kurdish independence in Southern Kurdistan (the Kurdistan Region in Iraq) several parties, intellectuals and independent people met in Germany on 7th September 2014. During this assembly, it was also decided to write and publish the following statement: The political leadership of Southern Kurdistan is preparing to declare independence. We, the members of the assembly support this idea since Kurds have the right to self-determination like every other ethnicity. Furthermore, we demand the reorganisation of the Pêşmerge forces as a national institution of the leaderships of all organisations and institutions in Southern Kurdistan. On 2nd July 2014, Southern Kurdistan became the target of an assault led by an terrorist, inhuman organisation called IS (Islamic State). Especially the Yazidis were targeted by these barbaric attacks. We, the members of the assembly appeal to recognize these inroads as a genocide. Moreover, we demand of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to consider the economic, administrative and safety situation in the Şengal region more seriously. We call on every state, especially the member states of the EU and the USA to support the KRG directly in their fight against the IS by delivering active help. Concerning Western Kurdistan, it can be said that we favour the agreement of Hewlêr which was sealed by the two Kurdish councils under the guidance and on the initiative of the KRG. Additionally, we endorse that the Western Kurdish fractions take joint action. An alliance of all Kurdish fractions is more than ever essential in these days. Hence, we call on the fractions to have fraternal relationships and choose to coexist peacefully.
