To those pseudo intellectuals (like Boyce Watkins) that spend time in critique of our inner city youths cultural propensity to buy material things like Air Jordans and car rims or those that walk around with their pants sagging, lets be clear about a couple things. Self righteous diatribes assassinating the character of our youth without proper context may ingratiate you to your academic colleagues or your mainstream financiers and it may even get you a few more likes on your page, but those irresponsible discussions do absolutely nothing to solve problems in our neighborHOODS. Jordans and Rims are about respect patna, not money. The fight is against a society that consistently disrespects, denigrates and misunderstands our people. When we focus on enlightening our communities by elevating minds with compassion, the sagging pants will lift UP on their own. When we empower people with the wealth of strong cultural identity, awareness and credibility, those people will begin to think of their heirs and not their AIRS. Degrees are as useless as sneakers if they are depreciating our assets and depleting the spirit of our futures. You should learn today.
