To those who mourn & to those who cheer the passing of one of the industries comedy giants, I say what a pile of BS! I didnt always find her jibs & slights against others to my liking but than again one of my favourite comedians, Don Rickles did more to make himself hated than Joan ever did cuz Joan was proved to have more longevity than Mr. Rickles in terms of keeping up with the times. Joan Rivers died, a woman whose behaviour over the years alternated between astonishing generosity & tyranny. She was one of the all time masters of hit-and-run when it came to both comedic timing & outright blantant nasty comments & all delivered with superb cynical, pessimistic timing. OH GROW UP! She was one of the original unholy trio - Joan Rivers, Don Rickles & Lenny Bruce - all talented & all deadly as a knife wound to the throat. Over the years so many comics are more concerned with scrubbing up their routines & images that we all kinda forget that its a lot easier to throw shade on Joan Rivers while forgetting that she made herself famous by cutting the feet out from under a lot of lofty folks - her job was not to be Mother Teresa. Her problem was that she was not part of the old boy network & couldnt bask in the bad boy reputation that is the cloak of many male comedians whose sh*t gets blurred between comedy & just outright nasty. Was her style unique? Hardly but she was stellar in her delivery on any level. Was she perhaps bitter & resentful towards an industry that tried to bury her while her husband committed suicide & Johnny Carson held the spade to bury her ...? Of course. I liked her. Its enuf that I enjoyed many years of her comedy before her bitterness blinded her to how the public would begin to perceive her. But the public is a fickle bunch of f*ckers whose intelligence & loyalty is never much to be counted upon. Whatever. I liked her. Im going to miss this giant of talent - a fireball of wit & sarcasm that left many floundering in its wake. She was one of the first to create an industry outside of her forte by helping create & endorsing her own line of jewelry of which I bought a few times over the years on the Shopping Network. Many will spit upon her passing while others will never get over her sudden & sad departure cuz they loved & respected her. Let it go. Ill say it from the heart. Im going to miss you, Joan Rivers cuz there is not another like you as your friend Phyllis Diller was fond of saying long before she too cracked the last joke before exiting stage left.
