“To touch is to give life” (Michelangelo) If you’ve attended my classes you will appreciate my perspective that touch is a powerful communicator of emotion. Sandy Fritz said “touch is more emotionally powerful than speech.” (Fritz, 2013) We postulated how much of our thought/emotion can be conveyed when giving (or receiving) a massage, and how much is conveyed when patting a friend on the back. Imagine conducting research to determine this fact. Place a barrier between two people in a room, and ask one to put their arm through the barrier to the person on the other side. Here they receive a one second touch on the arm, and are asked to guess the emotion the other was trying to convey.
