To use the vernacular, being a member of the sandwich generation - TopicsExpress

To use the vernacular, being a member of the sandwich generation sucks. I planned, and set all the appointments I could for my mother this week. Now her nursing agency says that they couldnt get her into the doctor this week (They said it would get her an appointment for this Thursday. Yeah right, Ive been trying to get an appointment for the last two weeks.) and that I will have to come down next week. Since all the other appointments are scheduled and Ive spent hours dealing with making this schedule, Im going this week. Someone else will have to take her next week. Im not sure there is an emergency now. Her fall was over two weeks ago. However the cat has fleas, she is out of food (thank you Lydia Kaye Blair for getting her food last week. I appreciate it!), she needs prescriptions, she needs several things in her house fixed, and a new lock on the door, the fence has blown down, and a drug addicted relative ramsacked her house looking for pain killers (there are none there! The nurses bring what she needs in the way of pain meds each day.) . Really? Im only one person!!! I wish she would move up here, but how do get an agoraphobic out of her house? Does anyone else ever feel squeezed between caring for their own children and home and caring for your parents? Yes, I am three hours late leaving for Mimis, but there were things that had to be done here. Since I spent the first half of the months on my mothers crises, my own responsibilities have now reached the emergency stage. I love my mother, but I am so burnt out. Thanks for letting me vent. Im so audial that sometimes just saying or writing something makes it easier for me to pick up and move forward. Since I am here by myself, You got to be my outlet. Thanks.
