Today 1st January 2015 we rode from Upper Moutere to fuel up in Motueka. From there we rode to Tapawera for lunch at the pub. Such a great quiet road, Tom took off on his purple Harley, I was next and it didnt take me long to catch up to him even with my hired bike not going any faster than 105km. When I caught him I kept having to back off as he was going slow (70km maybe) around the 50-60km marked corners. Lunch was cheap ($8 meals) before we carried on towards Nelson Lakes. It was such a perfect sunny Nelson day and there were a lot of bikes out riding, we seemed to be following a few groups, there were 3 really nice Ducatis and a nice guy I ended up chatting to on a Suzuki tourer who was heading to Christchurch. We stopped at Lake Rotoiti and enjoyed the sunshine before deciding where to head next. I think every man and his boat was there! Mum and Dad decided to show their neighbour Tom their Bach up what they call their lake, Lake Rotoroa. I call it Sandfly lake as the sandflys are huge and in abundance! After looking at the eels under the jetty we went up to the Bach for coffee and cookies. I chose to take the long way home by myself, back to the Nelson Lakes/ St Arnaud, down the Wairau valley through to Renwick before heading over the Whangamoa back through Atawhai into Nelson. I road around the port, through Tahunanui onto the Wakatu drive/ the devation and into Richmond. I did fuel at St Arnund, Renwick and at Richmond before heading up to visit my Nanna and then ride home to Upper Moutere. The ride was so peaceful and beautiful and just magic especially down the Whangamoas as that is a hill that is pure corners mostly marked 35-40km, the bike and I was in our element. I was glad to get to that hill as it was overcast and my fingers were going numb but as soon as I was over the top the sun was beginning to set and still had some warmth in it. Certerntly made a beautiful drive around the port and I rode home in the sunset after leaving Nannas and that was at 9pm!! What a day, stoked with 460km ridden- new dayly record.
