Today, 40 years ago i boarded a station wagon car in Dugbe, in Ibadan, with all excitement heading to Abeokuta on my my first holiday at the end of my first year as an undergraduate of University of Ibadan, a political science student. Got to Abeokuta excitedly entering our house at Isabo carrying what we used to call Portmanteau which you call luggage now. I will never forget the devastating statement my mother made saying you better go and see whats happening to your dad upstairs.Ive never seen my daddy sick. but i met him almost comatose . He started speaking Egun language to me which he had never done, knowing i didnt speak the language. We rushed him to Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro and he fell into a deep sleep after ER treatment. I had a big novel CHAKA THE ZULU with me and as i held his drip with my right hand i held the novel in my left and continued reading. My mother who had gone to the gate to buy a few things jolted me out of this South African odyssey with a shout , a scream and wailing. My dad JULIUS ALABI-HUNDEYIN. was dead. He was aged 56. I got to Badagry at 3 am to report the sad news. I remember being very sad that my uncles didi not take him home to Badagry to rest. 30 years later along with my siblings i exhumed his body from Abeokuta, took him home to Badagry and gave him his final rest in his fatherland. It was doubly emotional bc at that time i was the no 1 citizen of Badagry. So i took him home with the official car of chairman of Badagry LG as pilot. Today, to the Glory of God the children he gave life to are alive. we have sprouted 28 children who have also become vehicle for 14 great grandkids. If this is not GRACE tell me what is. Pa Julius Alabi Hundeyin, HUNTO HASSI, im convinced you are with the LORD.
