Today I am overwhelmed by the number of blue lines and red serges on my Facebook! Everyone knows each and every day an officer goes to work it could be the last - it is a real element of this job and always at the forefront in your mind each day you put on the uniform no matter what colour stripe is on your pants. But when a situation arises where officers are singled out, sought after and hunted like animals - they deserve better then to go like this. In the days to come - whether its a failure of the mental health system, a lack of knowledge by those who knew the murderer or just a recluse with an agenda I hope people take from this that police officers are people first, with lives, families, friends, hobbies and a past hoping for a good future. They are your neighbour, the face you see on the running trails, the person buying groceries next to you - all this before they put on a uniform. This is Canada, you can have an issue with the uniform and you can have an issue with the person - but dont take a stand, become a martyr, or start a war over the uniform. Likely, this had nothing to do with those officers who reported for duty last night. We should spare no expense, no extra hand unused and have military and interagency presence both to find this murderer - this crosses all jurisdictions and affects everyone. Thoughts with the families of the fallen!
