Today I am pumped to have authored a $4 MILLION INCREASE TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING in our city! And, for the very first time, we can meet our stated goal of $10 million in the affordable housing trust fund. As I have said numerous times, a huge part of fighting our opportunity gap is getting affordable housing in middle and upper income areas. You achieve this end with strong political will (which we certainly have in ALL our city elected, including our mayor and every council member) and money to purchase parcels that are oftentimes more expensive. Even with this amendment, we are not anywhere close to accommodating the demand for affordable housing. But its a solid step, and one Im proud to have taken with my colleagues.
