Today I championed the work of small businesses in Thanet by highlighting to the Prime Minister the dramatic decrease in local unemployment by 31% and the creation of 720 more apprenticeships in the last year. In response, The PM said “Small businesses feel more able to take people on, and part of that is the help that we’ve given to small businesses, cutting the small business rate of tax and also through the national insurance rebate making sure that every small business benefits by £2000” Small businesses are the backbone of Thanet’s economy and, supported by the Government’s sound economic policies, are creating local jobs at a dramatic pace. Sir Roger and I do all we can to support this process, including running a yearly jobs fair, and when we receive news like this it makes me even more optimistic and excited about the future of our area.
