Today I did something I havent done in 15 years. I got a credit card. Most people are astonished to find that Ive been traveling around the world for 7 years without a credit card. Ive managed to do it with just a debit card. I dont say that as a point of pride, just as a fact. I really dont like debt and Ive kept away from credit cards for years because I didnt need nor want to be in debt. Nonetheless, I recognize that there are benefits to having a credit card while traveling. Last year I tried applying for several credit cards, but was rejected every time because I had no credit history. Because I didnt have any credit cards and because I hadnt had any rent or utilities to pay for 7 years, my credit score just didnt exist. When I got rejected, the form they would send me with my credit score just said NA. Last August I applied for a secured credit card from my bank and used it several times over the last 9 months. Today I finally tried my luck again with the credit card applications, and sure enough I got accepted... for 2 cards! The cards I got are: • Chase Sapphire Preferred • Starwoods Preferred Guest American Express I hope to use them during my upcoming road trip to Western and Northern Canada and get the mileage bonuses on each. If I can get the bonuses on both, Ill get 70,000 miles which Ill put towards my round the world ticket on Star Alliance. What is your favorite travel credit card?
