Today I enjoyed the sights of Athens. The Acropolis Museum is an amazing architectural feat. Its structure of its upper level is oriented with the Parthenon nearby and is laid out with columns and facades that mimic the original layout, with sculptures lowered for better visibility. It illustrates so well the story of the Acropolis, with the lower floor displaying relics from other temples and domestic life. Under the Museum are excavations of early housing of the Athens neighbourhood, viewed through sections of the floor. The design of the Museum deserves its high accolades. The Museum benefits with the use of abundant natural light (lucky they dont have to deal with fragile textiles or papers), and heavy objects that arent easily pilfered, so it is easy to view objects closely to see the detail. Thankfully there is ample security to ensure the items remain untouched. The exhibits on the lower floor have an easy to follow kids trail, replica sections to illustrate the sculptures original colours, and detailed models to provide context to the objects original locations. I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to experience the visit.
