Today I had a composition lesson with a 13-year-old little girl. I found out that today was the five year anniversary of her dad strangling her mom to death before killing himself. As an eight-year-old this little girl watched the whole thing happen and called 911 after shielding her sisters eyes. When I asked her what she wrote a song about for our lesson she told me it was about how much she loves her twin sister and wants to protect her. This little girl told me that her sister couldnt protect herself because she has cerebral palsy. It was a beautiful song and today I am thankful for all that I have including a job that allows me to learn and teach at the same time.
