Today I had a conversation with a friend of mine, a boda boda - TopicsExpress

Today I had a conversation with a friend of mine, a boda boda rider. I asked him why they dont want to be registered. He told me his story-the search for wealth in Kampala. He started working in Nakumat, nd was earning 400k a month. After two years, he had saved money to buy a bajaj and started riding a boda boda. He has managed to buy six others & each brings him 20k daily(120k). He has set up a saloon for his wife who studied from YMCA & also bought a plot of land in Mutungo & Nansana where he plans to put rental units. On average, he says, he has an income of 150k daily. "So why dont you want to be registered" I insisted. He told me every time he has gone to transfer land and his motorcycles, URA asks for his TIN(Tax Identification Number). He was of the view that Kagina & Musisi are "conniving" to start taxing them highly because they are in lucrative trade. "You see Allan" he told me, "most of those boda bodas are owned by few individuals. So we cant accept these guys to understand us"!! This guy has a diploma in business administration.
