Today I heard that I am not free. Because apparently a woman’s freedom is only granted when her hair shows and her body is flaunted. Hmmm… I must have missed that memo. Since when did freedom inherently require me to show parts of my body that I don’t want others to see? My freedom is in the way I choose to look. Does it bother you to know that I have control over what I choose to show and withhold from the world? How ironic when the people who are supposedly “pro-freedom” incessantly insist that you take off your hijab, themselves dictating the garb that we should wear. So… freedom means to conform to YOUR criteria about what I should wear?... ...But of course, it’s not about freedom… is it? Really? I make you uneasy because my hijab reminds you that I am trying to obey God and not you, and THAT… bugs you. *** Hoy oí que no soy libre. Porque aparentemente la libertad de una mujer esta solamente garantizada cuando se le ve el pelo y cuando hace alarde de su cuerpo. Hmm Debo haberme perdido esa nota. ¿Desde cuando la libertad inherente me exige mostrar partes de mi cuerpo que no quiero que otros vean? Mi libertad está en la forma en la que yo elijo verme. ¿Te molesta saber que tengo el control sobre lo que elijo mostrar y retener el acceso al mundo? Que irónico es cuando las personas que están supuestamente a favor de la libertad incesantemente insisten en que te quites el hijab, ellos mismos dictando que atuendo debemos llevar. Así que.. ¿libertad significa estar de acuerdo con TÚ criterio sobre lo que yo debería ponerme?... ...Pero claro, no es sobre la libertad, ¿verdad? ¿De verdad? Te hago sentir incomodo/a porque mi hijab te recuerda que estoy intentando obedecer a Dios y no a tí, y ESO...te molesta. {Copied from a post in a group..from a video}
