Today I received an amazing massage from an older Chinese Lady. So grounded, focused and nurturing with strong Qi. It reminded me of the beauty and healing potential of bodywork once again. It also reminded of the many bodyworkers and practitioners of the healing arts who are out there being of service, helping thousands if not millions of people in deep effecting ways. I realize too again how different each bodyworker his, how his/her personality comes through and energy as the hands touch the body. physically and energetically. Everyone has a different approach and style and the ones who have been in this line of work for a while and love it truly have polished their gift that is unique to them. This goes beyond mere techniques but is an embodiment of healing energies they tap into beyond themselves. For many of us it is impossible to explain in words what we do and how it may effect a client. Everyone is so different too. What works for one may not work for another. Some things you only understand when experiencing them with your whole body-mind. The energetic match between a healer/therapist and a client is crucial because its a two-way street. The healer/therapist is not really healing but creating the conditions in the clients body-mind-spirit complex, tapping into the body intelligence of the person so he/she can heal him/herself for our bodies always strive towards wholeness and health but usually there are energetic and physical blockages manifested in chronic tension. Knowing how to receive massage is very important too. Breath plays a big role to help release tension through conscious breathing; being able to trust the process, relax and learning to develop more body sensitivity. There more we are in touch with our bodies the better we can detect clues and sensations that tell us if something is off before injury or illness manifest. In that sense bodywork is also preventive medicine. The healer/therapist is helping to open up pathways and break stagnant Qi and patterns to initiate that healing process within the client. Thats how true healing happens. No one can heal us but we ourselves. However, embodied healers/therapists can help us in that process because sometimes we need the nurturing touch of a bodyworker, sometimes deep, sometimes gentle and flowing, to truly get into our bodies which have carried us since birth and release whatever weve been holding on to. But this is not easy work. We give a lot and and it can be draining and challenging at times, but the rewards of the work to have truly helped a person, most often a stranger, is more than worth it, even more the money we make off it, at least for me. Im very grateful to be of service through the art of bodywork and it IS an art. Heres to all the healers, bodyworkers and therapists out there. You rock! Thank you for your work and dont forget to take of yourselves and get bodywork more often too. I know we forget that part at times.
