Today I saw a Chinese student get turned down at the pharmacy at CVS because he didnt have a US or Canadian (for whatever reason thats acceptable) ID card. In the spirit of our country attempting to mandate insurance/provide an option to those who dont have any, I beg the question: have we done it even close to right? This man is in the United States to receive one of the best educations in the world. He has trouble finding work, receiving health care, and is discriminated and made fun of by countless students for his ethnicity. But back to healthcare. The government has tried to protect us by issuing IDs, providing an option, and regulating our medicines. But, in a truly free market, this Chinese student would absolutely be able to receive the care he needs but couldnt today. We like when government protects US but do we notice when it actually hurts OTHERS?
