Today I say goodbye to a friend. It was an awkward, ill-advised beginning, which has lead to an awkward parting, but for the good, for the good. Friends, I wish to counsel that you always be true to yourself and, if a person feels off to you, that you place yourself first and politely decline any correspondences that may drain your reserves. The world is full of people, so there is no point sacrificing your comfort, sanity, or energy to save a soul who may be better tended by one more like them. This, of course, excludes emergency situations - at which point I can only advise you follow your conscience and best judgement.
