Today I take on Claudius for the first time on the Hamlet Globe to - TopicsExpress

Today I take on Claudius for the first time on the Hamlet Globe to Globe World tour. I have already enjoyed the challenge of Polonius, Gravedigger, Ghost, Fransico and Player 5 or 6 (or 30?)… I cant think of a better place to debut this challenging role. I am in St Kitts and Nevis (read Nervous). I begun this morning with a stroll along the beach, a swim and paying tribute to the Maunga (Sacred Mountain) Nevis. I acknowledged the ancestry and the history of this island and all the isles of the Carribbean that we have already visited and the rest that we are about to visit. I reflected on how lucky we Globe Rovers are to given this opportunity to take this genius little yarn to the world and also how lucky I am to share this experience with, not only the 16 Rovers, but all the ones who are working so hard at this amazing kaupapa (matter of great importance), back at the Globe. I also, of course, thought about my loved ones back home and about the planet, especially my tamariki and mokopuna (Children & Grandchildren), my siblings all their issues and my huge and wonderful wider family. I thought too of my work colleagues and elders back in Aotearoa (NZ). I thought of all of you because I need you all to be in my heart right now. I especially thought of my beloved, Lester Miller. I ache for her… Lastly I think of my rich ancestry and traditions which have always informed all my work. No reira Te hunga mate ki te hunga mate Te Hunga ora ki te hunga ora Or as Claudius puts it: …Your father lost a father, that father lost lost his. To persever in obstinate condolement is a course of impious stubbornness, tis a fault to heaven, a fault against the dead, a fault against nature, whose common theme is death of fathers and who still hath cried from the first corse till he that died today, this must be so… Tihei Mauriora! (I breathe!)
