Today I want to remember a few people from our past and call out their names: LANGSTON HUGHES, he was a great poet, writer, play write, columnist and social activist. He just celebrated a birthday yesterday. BENJAMIN BANNEKER, born 1731 died 1806, a mathematician and a astronomer, has been called the first African American intellectual, Banneker taught himself astronomy well enough to correctly predict a solar eclipse. A great man. GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER, a botanist and a great scientist, a man with many talents. GRANVILLE T. WOODS, invented more than a dozen devices to improve electric railway cars. Most noted for inventing a system that would let the engineer know how close his train was to others. and finally there was HENRY SAMPSON, a nuclear physicist. He invented the Gamma-Electrical cell. Brilliant man, check out how we got to the cell phones...
