Today I was in Winston and was really getting irritated because I was in a hurry to get back home. I wasnt happy that every store I had planned on going to didnt open until 10 a.m. However, I know now there was a reason...God had a divine appointment for me today, and it has truly opened my eyes to what being thankful really means...I saw a man standing in the cold rain with his dog (who by the way he had sat under a bush with a plastic coat over it so it wouldnt get as wet,) and a sign saying he was hungry and homeless. Yes, I know in Winston you see more of this than you do in Mt. Airy, but I have never known anyone who would purposely stand out in the cold, freezing rain unless they were really hungry. God quickened my spirit to help him, and I couldnt stop crying, and still cant. God put a certain amount of money in my heart to give him, but before I did I went to Pet Smart, bought his dog some treats, and then to Chic fil A to get him some coffee and a biscuit. When we pulled up to him I noticed he was so happy to see that coffee, that food, and those dog treats that he didnt even notice the money we were handing him. We told him God loved him, and he wished us a Happy Thanksgiving as his eyes filled up with tears. I see him so clearly as I type this...his worn face...his tired body...his sad eyes. I have SO MUCH to be thankful for, and more than likely so do you. Tomorrow as you sit around the table with your families, in a warm home, with so much food that you will more than likely eat way too much, that there are many who would give anything to be in your shoes. Be thankful...truly thankful, and praise the One who has blessed you with all that you have. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1
