Today, I was interviewed for a journalistic piece about the dance - TopicsExpress

Today, I was interviewed for a journalistic piece about the dance world in Korea & the ways it is impacted by social media. After a great discussion with the lovely SooHye Jang, she asked where Id like to be in the dance world here, and I have to share my response. When I answered, I realized I dont want to be in any particular sector, but rather create something new & more well-rounded. This has always been my vision with Surge Dance Intensive. Reason: There is a great divide here. I am sure others in the dance scene would agree that a great deal of separation exists. (shes a ballet dancer, his genre is Bboying, her style is Kpop, hes an underground legend, shes a commercial dancer..etc) Its too one-dimensional. I was given jazz dancer as my ONLY attribute on Dancing9. But I can do Hiphop, too...and I tap. And have ballet training.. I would say. Didnt matter, because in Korea, dancers have 1 style, and thats their focus. Im just gonna speak it out into the world-- one day Surge Dance Intensive will build & evolve into a community. It will be a dance convention, just like the ones I grew up attending! One where Korean teachers bring their studios to take class all weekend long from a bunch of different instructors from around the world. One where students will learn AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE in one weekend, taking away more than they ever could by focusing on just one type of dance for a whole year. One where students from so many different studios will be in the SAME ROOM, learning together and, most importantly, learning from each other. Thats my vision, & thats where I want to be in Korea.
