Today I was told I was a bad friend. If a person asks me where to learn swing dancing, pole, hip hop, breakdancing tap.... Depending on their skill level and location, I will advise, and if I dont know, Ill refer them on to some one who does..... But she is a Salsa teacher, who has completed an 8 week performance course in Burlesque... Her routine was basic moves and her costume was an ill fitting corset from last seasons Target range with hot glue sparkles. Burlesque has a rich history, a sass and pomp that only few can master. It has professional costuming. Burlesque has not enjoyed mainstream support because in early days all people related it to was stripping, but now that theres a dollar in it, every Tom, Dick and Harriet wants a piece of the pie. I have never seen her compete, perform or even in the audience of any shows big or small. She enjoys a huge following as a Salsa teacher and is now promoting herself as a burlesque teacher with years of performance experience (yes...... In Salsa). How would she feel it if I did an 8 week Salsa course and told all my burlesque friends that I am qualified to teach them a Salsa?.... So if referring someone to a PERFORMER, COMPETITOR, COSTUMER, PROMOTER, MENTOR and ADVOCATE makes me a bad friend in your eyes....... So be it.......... Dont slag me in Salsa circles.... My reach is far and unlike yourself..... I am a consumer, not a profiteer, so I have nothing to lose. Silly girl.
