Today I went to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri - TopicsExpress

Today I went to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri representing Rescue One. If you have not visited there in several years, you need too! They have a whole new management team. I was given a tour of the whole facility. I have visited many shelters in my day and have never seen one so well kept. Animals are kept in clean kennels with blankets, toys, plenty of room, and all had fresh food and water. Unlike most shelters, there was no smell! There new outdoor play areas are really nice and each one has a pool for the doggies. It was fun to watch them play! This meeting was very important to me as many times we are full and have to give people other options. I wanted to make sure the options we give are good options. First let me say they have not had to euthanize a dog for space in almost 2 years. (this does not include Pitbulls) This is a awesome for any Humane Society in puppy mill nation! Yes they have had to euthanize dogs that were sick. Yes they have had to euthanize animals that were too aggressive and yes they have to euthanize cats sometimes but they work hard to run adoption specials to avoid that. They have also partnered with Petsmart Charities Rescue Waggin! Bottom line is we are all in this together. They get bombarded just like the rest of us. There is no perfect organization but we live in an imperfect world where people are not responsible pet owners. Animals coming from hoarding, breeding or abusive homes may not be adoptable. Most shelters/rescues do not have the resources to rehabilitate them. I just wanted everyone to know that they get Rescue Ones two thumbs up!! I realise some may have a different opinion but this is a not a post for that. Anything negative you have to say, do something about it instead. Go visit the shelter, help educate pet owners, promote spay/neuter, or volunteer. The only way we can work towards a no kill community is by working together. https://facebook/pages/Humane-Society-of-Southwest-Missouri/212612095444841
